Confused why you felt it was appropriate to say this to me, a Black woman with a whole degree in African American studies, as though I haven't actively participated in discussions around this question. "People of color" is a complicated term that grew out of the Black power movement as a way of explicitly de-centering whiteness – you can Google to learn more about this – and while it is imperfect it is far from offensive. I have more discomfort with capitalizing "White" than using the term POC.

Most importantly, this is the term I used, intentionally, to refer to my own community. Please, white people, let Black, Latinx, Asian and Indigenous people identify themselves on their own terms.
